Below is a Wish List of items our office needs. If you’ve got something on the list, you can donate it directly, or you can donate the amount we need to purchase the item ourselves. If you see something below you’d like to help with, please contact us to work out the details.
CARS
It’s about a 2 1/2 hour drive from our office in Rapid City to the nearest Lakota reservation and an additional 3-6 hours from there to the others, most of it on dirt roads. It’s essential that our staff and organizers get out to the reservations as much as possible to meet with clients, leaders, and stakeholders; but it’s easy to see how the miles add up and the wear and tear takes its toll.
Our current crop of vehicles is quickly aging. If you donate your car to LPLP you can take a tax deduction—often for more than you might have received selling the car. Not only that, we promise to turn your former vehicle into a road warrior for justice.
FREQUENT FLIER MILES
Sometimes our work takes us out of South Dakota, to attend national conferences or regional workshops, to meet with foundations or potential funders, to give advice to legislators in Washington or get advice from our legal firm in New York. The cost of tickets can add up. If you have frequent flier miles with any of the airlines that fly into and out of South Dakota (Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, and United), we could really use them. For details on how to donate your miles, please give us a call.
CONFERENCE TABLE AND CAHIRS
On any given day there’s a lot of activity in our office: staff meetings, conferences with clients and attorneys, workshops with ICWA Directors, training for tribal representatives, and much more. A good conference table to could really help make these activities as professional and productive as possible.
The ideal table would be oval/round in shape, seat up to 15 people, and would be accompanied with a set of swivel chairs. A burgundy or dark blonde color would complement the decor in our office.
AUDIO, VIDEO, AND STILL CAMERA EQUIPMENT
Recording our work is critical, from taping interviews and depositions, to documenting workshops and events, to creating educational and promotional videos. Our staff includes two accomplished filmmakers and a music producer, and we know that we could put quality video and still camera gear to excellent use. Good audio equipment will also help us achieve a long-time goal: letting Lakota youth express themselves through recorded music, poetry and other art forms.
